Local McDonald's Owner/Operators Pledge $2 Million to Help Build a New Ronald McDonald House
SAN DIEGO – July 1, 2007 – To help Ronald McDonald House Charities aid more families in need, San Diego McDonald's owner/operators have pledged $2 million to the charity's capital campaign to build a new Ronald McDonald House.
The McDonald's owner/operators kicked off the commitment by presenting the charity with a $110,937 check on Friday, June 22 at a meeting at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe.
"As people who live and work in this community, we have
seen how the Ronald McDonald House has changed the lives of
families and their children," said Philip Palumbo, president,
San Diego
McDonald's Owner/Operator's Association. "We are committed
to making San Diego a better place, and by supporting the Ronald
McDonald House capital campaign, we are doing that."
The donation will help Ronald McDonald House Charities expand the House's capacity to shelter families with sick children from 12 bedrooms to 47. Currently, the charity has a waiting list of 40 deserving families because there is not enough room to house them. The new, larger house will be situated directly across from Rady Children's Hospital, giving families close access to their ailing children.
The public can contribute to the capital campaign by purchasing a $150 ticket to the charity's third annual ÏHouse for the HouseÓ raffle fundraiser, which runs through September. The winner will receive a new downtown condo overlooking Petco Park. Other prizes will be given away, including a new Toyota Camry and cash. Visit www.sdraffle.com for more information.
Since opening in 1980, the Ronald McDonald House in San Diego has offered a "home away from home" for more than 10,000 families and provided more than 100,000 nights of lodging. The two-story, 12-bedroom house has all the comforts of home and is located on Rady Children's Hospital property. The Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego is preparing to open a second, larger house nearby in order to accommodate more families and better meet the needs of the community.
