Ronald McDonald House Charities® of San Diego

RMHC

Ronald McDonald House Charities® of San Diego (RMHC-SD) provides a home-away-from-home for children and their families while the child is treated for serious, often life-threatening illnesses at San Diego hospitals. McDonald’s of San Diego County continues to support RMHC-SD, playing a key role in building the new 47-bedroom Ronald McDonald House®, but support from the community is also critical to the House’s ability to help families in need.

Since opening the first 12-bedroom House in 1980, 140,000 nights of lodging were provided to families. The new 65,000 square foot facility, which opened July 2009, expects to serve nearly 20,000 families this year. The House not only provides lodging, but also offers day services to thousands of monthly visitors through the new Family Care Center within the House.

McDonald’s Corporation and the San Diego County McDonald’s Owner/Operator Association generously provide significant contributions toward the annual operating budget for the House. This is accomplished largely through in-store promotions on behalf of the House, as well as public support through the collection boxes inside McDonald’s restaurants. RMHC-SD, which operates the house, is financially independent of both McDonald’s Corporation and Rady Children’s Hospital, and relies greatly on community support to accomplish their mission.

With community support, the Ronald McDonald House takes care of families, so they can care for their kids.
